Wed Jul 8, 2009, 1:59 PM
  • Mood: Optimism
  • Listening to: the heater
  • Reading: um. my journal? i just wrote it...
  • Watching: nooooooooothin.
  • Playing: NOT GUITAR HERO
  • Eating: noooooooothin.
  • Drinking: flat pepsi.
Okay, so don't laugh at me, I'm not good at interviews because i've never been interviewed before...it was strange. I really hope I don't get famous enough to where people actually want to do this on a regular basis lol. It was fun though, no complaints. P.S. Yes I know I sound extremely awkward and naive but it's because i AM extremely awkward and naive lol
By the way, her name is Taylor Guthrey or...i might not have spelled that right lol so i used her intials because she just sent me the flat interview. so i broke it up for you guys.
Supposedly this is all going to look cleaner and make me sound not as much like an idiot after she's pared it down, but whatever. she didnt send me that version lol enjoy:

TG: Thanks for agreeing to meet with me. I know I must have sounded like a crazy person when I asked.
C: Oh, no problem. I’m flattered.

TG: Okay, so we’re going to get started with a couple of easy questions and see where it goes.
C: This is going somewhere?

TG: You’re really funny. Whenever I read your books I end up smiling if not laughing. How would you describe your sense of humor?
C: Um…I’d have to say that my sense of humor is made up of sarcasm, irony, perversion, and um…I guess I use a lot of puns. I do it without thinking, but yeah. It happens.

TG: So what do your friends think of your humor?
C: You assume I have friends. That’s really sweet of you. Um. Anyway, my friends tend to think I’m pretty funny I guess.

TG: You guess?
C: Well I don’t exactly outright ask them if I’m funny. But they laugh at my jokes, hopefully not out of pity. And I like to cheer up my friends. Making people smile makes me smile.

TG: Okay, that’s cool. So what got you started with writing?
C: Well, um…I was very young when I was introduced to reading and writing. My grandfather and I used to write bedtime stories for me, and reading just became a natural part of my life from when I was 3 years old…writing followed, I guess.

TG: Wow, so young?
C: I picked it up quickly. I’ve always loved literature.

TG: Cool. So let’s do some fluff questions.
C: Fluff questions?

TG: Questions that your fans would probably be interested in knowing about you. Superficial things.
C: Like what?

TG: Like what flavor toothpaste is your favorite?
C: People want to know that? Um. I really like the taste of wintergreen?

TG: Okay, good, good. So what’s your favorite candy?
C: I’m really into gummies right now. But last week I was the hugest fan of dark chocolate. It alternates weekly, sometimes daily.

TG: Next question. What kind of music do you like?
C: Oh, wow. Double whammy. Um. I have so much music it’s ridiculous. I can’t get enough music food. My ears are always hungry for more, I guess. Um. I’ve been getting into a lot of movie scores lately. I really like the instrumental stuff.

TG: Favorite band?
C: Again, a very conditional question. It changes. Last week it was Tegan and Sara. This week it’s Phantom Planet. But I really like Billy Boy on Poison and Paramore and Regina Spektor and Journey overall.

TG: So…not much mainstream music?
C: I guess not…the music on the radio can sound really generic to me. But I do like Rihanna, and Jordin Sparks, and Beyonce and things like that.

TG: Music inspires you then.
C: Yes. Very much so. But it’s not the only thing that I get my ideas from.

TG: What else inspires you?
C: So we’re not in fluff questions anymore. That’s good to know. Um. I get really inspired by nature.

TG: I’ve seen a lot of that in your stories.
C: Really? Well, I really like writing about it because there are so many comparisons to make, so many ways to describe it. Even writing about a tree can take up to a full thirty minutes with me if I’m not careful. But again, nature isn’t the only thing that inspires me. My mind is always churning with new ways to write.

TG: Not sure I’m following.
C: Well. I mean. It’s like when I see something, anything really. I’m decoding it in my head, breaking it down into words. Like if I’m looking at a file cabinet. Without honestly thinking about it I break it down. Gray. Big. Metal. Then I break it down into smaller parts. Dark gray, like a pigeon’s wing. Tall and wide like a body builder. File cabinet—the body builder of office furniture. Metal, probably smooth and cool to the touch. And it just goes on and on like that in my head, not even on paper.

TG: Okay. That sounds like a nightmare. How can you stand it?
C: It’s actually not that bad once you get used to it. It keeps my mind occupied at least, when I’m bored.

TG: So how often do you write?
C: Um. I try to write at least a little every day. Writing is like a really good release for me because it clears out some of the horrid clutter that’s always in my head.

TG: So let’s talk about some of your finished products.
C: Okay.

TG: True Memoirs Of A Liar. What’s it about?
C: (she laughs) I freaking hate that question. I never know how to word it right. Okay. Um. It’s about a girl, named Camille who makes boys fall in love with her for a living. She’s shipped off, kind of like cargo, to different places all over the world and is assigned one to four boys and is given a time period in which she must make the boy tell her that he loves her.

TG: Why?
C: That’s the thing. She really doesn’t know. She was adopted and sort of thrown into the lifestyle. She ends up falling for one of her assignments and it’s all downhill from there. I guess you could say it becomes like her personal mission to find out her purpose.

TG: How does it end?
C: …Am I really supposed to tell you?

TG: No. Not really. And besides, I’ve already read it anyway. Speaking of which, the people who have read it rant and rave about it being “the next twilight”. What do you think of that?
C: Speechlessness, basically. As a huge twilight fan, I’m extremely flattered that the thought would even cross their minds.

TG: Do you agree?
C: What?

TG: Do you think that your book could be the next twilight?
C: Um. I don’t know. It’s all about how the readers perceive it, I guess. I don’t think I’d want to be that famous.

TG: Why not?
C: The thought of getting recognized on the street doesn’t exactly hold the same appeal for me as it would for a lot of other people. Fame isn’t why I write. It’s a passion, not a gateway to recognition.

TG: How noble.
C: Uh. Sure.

TG: I meant it in a good way. Anyway. How soon until it’s out on shelves?
C: As of right now, it’s supposed to be out by next March. Which would be awesome considering my birthday is in March.

TG: That’s really exciting. I’m happy for you. So. Tell me. What do you like to do when you’re not writing away?
C: I really like to keep active…I love to run. We have this nature trail out back and I run it, and then a few more miles just for fun. I love to swim, though sadly, I haven’t gotten much of it done this summer. I also really like to watch movies.

TG: What kind?
C: All kinds.

TG: Do you have a favorite movie?
C: I have a favorite genre? I love all classic Disney movies? I don’t know if that sounds dorky or not, but I love them.

TG: So the way to your heart is through a good Disney flick?
C: (long pause) Flick? I’ve never heard anyone say that. That’s funny. Anyway. I guess that’s one way to get to my heart.

TG: Any other ways?
C: I’m trying to figure out if you’re just a very thorough interviewer or if you’re hitting on me. Joking, only joking. I think music would definitely be a way to my heart. Such a sucker for sappy love songs.

TG: So, I know all your male readers would want to know…are you attached to anyone right now?
C: No. I left my Siamese twin at Arby’s.

TG: I mean romantically.
C: Oh. Yes very much attached. Sorry to ALL of my male readers, because I know sooo many guys are reading True Memoirs right now. Sarcasm. Note the sarcasm.

TG: Well, you did email me your picture so I could post it on my blog didn’t you?
C: Um. Yes. Does that…mean I should have more male readers?

TG: No, but you’re very pretty.
C: Thank you. That’s very sweet.

TG: So do you think you’re very pretty?
C: Um. What?

TG: So. We’re pretty much at an end to this interview. I wish you the best and I hope that you get as good as a response to your book after it’s been published as you’ve been getting on the internet. And thank you also for being my first interviewee.
C: You’re a strange little woman. You know that?

TG: Yes.
C: Okay. Well. Thanks for having me. You were my first interviewer and you’ve made it extremely memorable. Thank you.

TG: Let’s keep in touch. I’d really like to keep myself updated on your affairs.
C: Alright. Thanks again. Bye.

And that's how it happened. lol i don't exactly feel glamorous...but that was fairly fun to do. i should probably get more practice on interacting with people. i didn't know i sounded that retarded on paper lol.
AHA! here's the final product of my awkwardness and taylor's awesomeness: [link]
Oh, and again i repeat: TAKING TML book one AND two DOWN AT THE END OF THIS MONTH!
